By all accounts, this should be a good time to be a Democrat. If only there were a good candidate. The country is ripe for the taking if some level-headed, sensible, charsimatic leader were to step up. Sadly, our country seems bankrupt of good leadership, and everybody is more intersted in dividing and serving their own self interests.

And therein lies the problem. Politics and governance for a diverse population is supposed to be all about compromise and making deals. Our government has devolved into hostage-taking over pet issues. “If I can’t have my way, nobody gets anything.” It would be funny if it weren’t so dangerous.

That is the problem with every democracy, but the thing is, the people with common sense are usually the majority i.e. : the nordic countries whereas the bigoted, xenophobic, fundamentalist cuckoo for cocoa-puffs are a minority. In the US and some other countries (including mine) that seems to work differently, it seems like some of the candidates and a fair share of the population don’t even know how the human body works in it’s most basic ways.

I don’t mean to say there isn’t xenophobia, but take a look at how differently countries in europe are handling the refugee situation. Hungary is basically treating them like animals and Iceland is the exact opposite.
